FAMILies ORGANIZING TO SAVE TIME

Metro Phoenix Participatory Defense

The participatory defense program began in Phoenix in 2019. Over the past three years, The Tadini House has served twenty-seven families  (27) here in Arizona and eleven families (11) across the nation at other participatory defense hubs. Our community offers a support network of families experiencing the same harm, and a safe space to share stories, ask for advice, and get connected to resources. We work with Arizona families to seek out ways to fight for their loved one and utilize participatory defense strategies like:

  • review court material,
  • create a social bio packet,
  • create a video,
  • build family support,
  • build court attendance for bail hearings, probation negotiations, trial and sentencing hearings,
  • build community support utilizing organizing skills;
  • build rapport with the public defender to discuss strategy, provide relevant questions, engage in research, identify expert witnesses, and assist in preparing the defendant for court appearance.

weekly meeting for Guidance & Support

Guided by the Silicon Valley Debug's Albert Cobarrubias Justice Project (ACJP), the metro-Phoenix Phoenix Hub families support each other during a loved one's criminal case.  Often times families are shunned and

re left alone to navigate an unfamiliar criminal process.  We meet once a week to offer support, information and guidance each step of the way: Tuesday 4:00pm - 6:00pm.  Contact us for the Zoom Link.

Community Impact Statements

The Tadini House is a member of a newly formed coalition working to provide education on the benefits of Community Impact Statements, also known as Racial Impact Statements. 9 states have already adopted their own versions of Community Impact Statements, all which are aimed at assisting lawmakers in assessing the potential disparities inherent in proposed legislation on the public, before adopting and implementing legislation.
