Metro Phoenix Participatory Defense
The participatory defense program began in Phoenix in 2019. Over the past three years, The Tadini House has served twenty-seven families (27) here in Arizona and eleven families (11) across the nation at other participatory defense hubs. Our community offers a support network of families experiencing the same harm, and a safe space to share stories, ask for advice, and get connected to resources. We work with Arizona families to seek out ways to fight for their loved one and utilize participatory defense strategies like:
- review court material,
- create a social bio packet,
- create a video,
- build family support,
- build court attendance for bail hearings, probation negotiations, trial and sentencing hearings,
- build community support utilizing organizing skills;
- build rapport with the public defender to discuss strategy, provide relevant questions, engage in research, identify expert witnesses, and assist in preparing the defendant for court appearance.
